Founded in 1978, the Wyoming FFA Camp has become one of the premier leadership training tools for FFA members from Wyoming and beyond.

Founded on the belief that leadership training should be available for all FFA members, the camp strives to provide the best leadership training around and has always kept the price under $100.

The camp was founded by Al Snyder, Wyoming Association President in 1977-78. The first camp was held on Tensleep Mountain and hosted 16 members. 

After 2 moves the camp found it’s new home at the Wyoming Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, just above Buffalo Wyoming. For over 10 years the members of the FFA camp would give one afternoon of their camp to improve the camp for others. From building trails and outdoor BBQ pits to stripping and refinishing the buildings the FFA campers let their talent and work ethic shine.

In 1993 the FFA camp had out grown that facility and was on the move again. This time they landed at the Fremont County Youth Camp in the Wind River mountains above Lander, WY. This new facility had plenty of room for growth and is still hosting the FFA Camp today. The biggest single session ever was held at this camp with over 150 FFA members in attendance.

Not just a local affair, the FFA Camp has hosted members from Montana, Minnesota, and Nebraska as well as Wyoming. It has had 4 past national officers on our list of counselors, two from Wyoming, one from Missouri and one from Virginia. 

Attendees at camp can generally look forward to a very full schedule with emphasis on communication and self-awareness. Workshops include how to interview, public speaking, dealing with peer pressure and life as an FFA member, as well as some fun stuff like camp fires, Ag. Olympics, and a dance. Each camp culminates with a Banquet hosted by the officers elected at camp. It’s a week few campers will forget, and few camps can beat at any price.

Since it’s inception the camp has hosted over 2000 FFA members. The average the last few years has been 140 members split in two sessions. The Counselors are a fantastic mix of past State Officers, and other caring individuals who donate their time for the FFA. Some are college students, some professionals, teachers, nurses, and more. 

Recently, to insure the long-term stability of the camp, the founder formed a Board of Directors under the name Western Institute of Leadership for Life (WILL). This move should help assure that the Wyoming FFA Camp will be around well into the future.
